Prof. Dr. Achyut Prasad Wagle Appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Kathmandu University
A-Levels 2025

Kathmandu —Prof. Dr. Achyut Wagle has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Kathmandu University (KU).

The decision was made by the Prime Minister and Chancellor of KU, KP Sharma Oli, and confirmed by the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.

Congratulating the  newly appointed vice-chancellor, PM Oli wrote on Twitter, "I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for a successful tenure to Professor Dr. Achyut Prasad Wagle on his appointment to the prestigious position of Vice-Chancellor of Kathmandu University."

His appointment follows a rigorous selection process conducted by the Vice-Chancellor Search and Recommendation Committee, which was formed to identify suitable candidates for the position. The committee, coordinated by KU’s founding Vice-Chancellor Suresh Raj Sharma, initially shortlisted ten candidates from a pool of 20 eligible applicants. The selection process adhered to the Kathmandu University Vice-Chancellor Search and Recommendation Procedure, 2081, with candidates evaluated on multiple criteria before moving forward to presentations and interviews.

After the presentations and interviews, the committee recommended the top three highest scorers to the Prime Minister, from whom Dr. Achyut Wagle was selected.

Wagle had been serving as Acting Vice-Chancellor since the tenure of former VC Bhola Thapa ended on Magh 4. Prior to that, he was appointed as Registrar of KU on Ashoj 2, 2079, by then-Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Prof. Dr. Achyut Prasad Wagle delivered a keynote speech on "How to Retain Students in Nepal" at an event organized by Edusanjal. Watch/listen to his insights on education here.
