40th Convocation of Tribhuvan University held today

Tribhuvan University (TU) has successfully conducted its 40th Convocation on December 29, 2014 at Tripureshwor based Dasharath Stadium. The convocation was  chaired by the Chancellor of Tribhuvan University and Prime Minister Sushil Koirala.

Of the total 53,178 students who graduated from the university from June 13, 2013 to May 30, 2014, some 8,000 students have applied to participate in the programme. 

 In total 7938 graduates participated in the convocation, in which 795 students were from the Faculty of Education, 1619 from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, 889 from the Institute of Science and Technology, 94 from the Faculty of Agriculture, 519 from the Institute of Medicine, 2799 from the Faculty of Management, 65 from the Faculty of Law, 39 from the Institute of Forestry and 1119 from the Institute of Engineering. Among them 51 scholars were PhD holders from different disciplines. Chancellor and PM Koirala awarded all PhD scholars and TU toppers.

Chancellor and PM Sushil Koirala while delivering his convocation speech said, “TU has been recognized as a national or central university up to the international arena and it is the responsibility of all the fresh graduates along with its stakeholders to extend its goodwill”. Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Chan-Gyu Lee, President of Changwon National University, Republic of Korea, commenced, “I am extremely happy in having the honor to be with you here and congratulate with praise everyone graduating from the leading university which represents Nepal’s intelligence, the Tribhuvan University”. Prof. Lee also hoped that all the graduates would utilize the assets they gained from Tribhuvan University, demonstrate the mindset of Global New Frontier and become leaders who ventured from Nepal to Globe.

 

Delivering her convocation speech, Pro-Chancellor and Minister of Education Chitralekha Yadav said, “This is an unforgettable moment being here in this programme and TU should move towards the center for excellence being more responsible in order to produce highly qualified manpower for the requirement of national necessity”. Prof. Dr. Hira Bahadur Maharjan, the Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, while delivering his welcome speech presented the overall success of the university. By highlighting recent achievements of TU and its scenario of extending relationship to internationally recognized universities of the world, VC Maharjan further stated, “Being seriously committed to take the responsibility as a central university, we are keen to promote TU into a leading center for academic excellence”.

In the programme, Rector Prof. Guna Nidhi Nyupane, Acting Registrar Prof. Dr. Dev Raj Adhikari, Deans of all institutes and faculties, directors of all research centers and officials of TU actively participated and performed their respective roles to make the programme successful. Furthermore, hundred of guests, journalists and parents were also present in the convocation.

The Faculty of Education with 20,261 students tops the list of graduates participating in the ceremony, followed by Management Faculty with 14,503 students and Humanities and Social Sciences with 10,979 students. 

Similarly, 3,612 students from Science and Technology stream, 1,836 from Engineering, 1,057 from Medicine and 480 from the Faculty of Law are in the grace list. In addition, 67 M Phil and PhD graduates from various faculties also are also enlisted in the grace list.
