Public Service Commission (Lok Sewa Aayog) selects candidates for the Lab technician position in the Nepal Health Service. Pradesh Loksewa Aayog may have a separate syllabus for selecting lab technician candidates. The syllabus plan for the Open Competitive Examination for Nepal Health Service, Medical Lab Technology Group, Fifth Level, Lab Technician is divided into the first and second phases.
This exam is for selecting a Lab Technician (Fifth Level) to work under the Nepal Health Service, Medical Lab Technology Group.
The medium language of the written examination question paper will be either Nepali or English, based on the language in which the syllabus content is provided. However, both languages may be used if clarification of the subject matter is necessary. The medium language of the written examination answers will be Nepali, English, or both Nepali and English.
The written examination consists of two papers:
The first paper of the written examination carries 100 marks. It is structured to include 20 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) of two marks each on General Awareness and Public Management and 30 MCQs of two marks each on Job-Based Knowledge. To pass this paper, candidates must score at least 40 marks.
The duration of the exam is 45 minutes. For scoring, 20 percent of the marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer, while no marks will be awarded or deducted for unanswered questions.
The use of any calculator is prohibited.
Candidates must write their answers using capital letters A, B, C, or D. If small letters (a, b, c, d) or any other symbols are used, the answer sheet will be canceled.
The second paper of the written examination consists of 12 questions worth five marks each and four questions worth ten marks each, totaling 100 marks. This section may include long questions, parts of a single question, or short notes under one question.
To pass, candidates must score at least 40 marks. The duration of this paper is 2 hours and 15 minutes. Separate answer booklets will be provided for each section, and candidates must write answers for each section's questions in the respective section's answer booklet.
The first and second papers of the written examination will be conducted separately but on the same day, with the number of questions, marks, and weightage specified in the relevant paper/subject.

Only applicants selected from the first phase of the written examination will be eligible to participate in the interview. The interview phase will assess candidates based on various criteria relevant to the Lab Technician position.
The applicant should have passed the Proficiency Certificate Level in Health Lab (i.e., Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology-CMLT) or two years and six months courses of Lab Technician after passing SLC from a recognized academic institution.
Candidates must be at least 18 and not over 45 years old (this is a special provision under Health Service Group).
However, there is no age limit for permanent staff of the Government of Nepal currently in service.
