School Level

Primary/Secondary

School Level Education is two tier education system comprised of primary and secondary level. In general, school-level education refers to the combination of primary and secondary education. Secondary school education is a must for entry to higher-secondary school and university level education.

Nepalese  and English are the main two languages of instruction in the school level. The academic year runs from Baisakh to Chaitra.

The classes are divided into three categories each taking an academic year; primary (grades 1–5), lower secondary (grades 6–8), secondary (grades 9–10), and secondary (grades 9–10), which ends with the School Education Examination (SEE). After clearing the SEE certification, students can continue to higher secondary education (grades 11 and 12).

Similarly, the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training is in charge of secondary vocational education (CTEVT). Students can advance to CTEVT programs leading to the Technical School Leaving Certificate (TSLC) after completing the lower secondary level.
