M.Sc. in Informatics and Intelligent Systems Engineering (MSIISE) program is the first of its kind offered by the Institute of Engineering, Thapathali Campus in Nepal. The disruptive era of smart machines that learn from experiences adapts to changing situations and predict outcomes is upon us. Humans are coexisting with an ever-widening range of intelligent systems that have infiltrated society and are influencing the modern style of living. The M.Sc. in Informatics and Intelligent Systems Engineering (MSIISE) program is the first of its kind offered by the Institute of Engineering, Thapathali Campus in Nepal. It is a multidisciplinary graduate program designed to produce next-generation engineers capable of conceptualizing, designing, implementing, and sustaining systems having cognitive abilities.
The MSIISE program focuses on the field of informatics which encompasses information processing in natural and engineered systems. The core and elective courses aim to expose students to cutting-edge software and hardware technology that combines human and machine elements to exploit their respective strengths and mitigate their respective weaknesses.
Program Objectives:
The M.Sc. program in Informatics and Intelligent Systems is framed with the following goals:
- To make students competent in the interlocking fields of information processing and autonomous intelligent systems
- To impart knowledge regarding the design of algorithms that scale and can handle the increasing volume and complexity of data
- To teach students how to build intelligent systems that solve problems by computational reasoning using captured domain knowledge and data
- To equip students with the skill set required to be a critical thinker and an adaptable problem-solver in an environment of continuously evolving technology
Program Duration:
The minimum period of full-time attendance required for the successful completion of the MSIISE program is two academic years. The maximum duration within which a student is allowed to complete the course is as per the rules and regulations set forth by the Faculty Board of the Institute of Engineering.
Selection:
Candidates fulfilling all the admission requirements shall be selected for admission on the basis of merit, which will be assessed in terms of the total marks secured in the entrance exam.
Eligibility
In order to be eligible for admission to the MSc in Informatics and Intelligent Systems Engineering (MSIISE) program, a candidate must:
(a) Have a four-year Bachelors degree in Electronics / Computer / Software / Information Technology from Tribhuvan University, or a degree equivalent to the aforementioned branches of engineering from a recognized university
(b) Have an undergraduate grade not less than that prescribed by the Faculty Board of the Institute of Engineering
(c) Secure a minimum score in the entrance exam, as prescribed by the Faculty Board of the Institute of Engineering
Admission Criteria
The MSc Entrance examination will be a "Computer Based Examination" of two hours duration, consisting of two sections:
Section A consists of 45 questions for 50 marks.
Section-B consists of a stream specialized course with 50 questions of 1 mark each. Each question will be of objective type with multiple choice answers and the negative marking for each wrong answer is 10%.
Candidates fulfilling all the admission requirements shall be selected for admission on the basis of merit, which will be assessed in terms of the total marks secured in the entrance exam.
