MSc in Environmental Science-Kathmandu University program was conceived in response to the growing societal need for environmental professionals capable of dealing with various complex and interrelated issues at institutional, industrial, and community levels.
The program emphasizes scientific competencies and applied skills like planning, management, policy analysis, and information technology for re-designing the environment for sustained enhancement of its quality.
Mission
- Produces professionals with a sound theoretical and practical background in environmental processes, problems, and issues through an integrated systems approach
- Develop personnel with specialized knowledge and skills in development, applied research and impact assessment, pollution monitoring, and natural resource management.
- Develop personnel with specialized knowledge and skills in glaciology, meteorology, applied research, impact assessment, and climate science.
- Develop personnel with specialized knowledge and skills in wildlife and protected areas arrangement, wildlife ecology, applied research, conservation, and impact assessment.

Scholarships
University Grant Commission (UGC) Nepal provides Formula Based Founding Scholarship to sizable members of deserving M.Sc. students. The department also provides Silver Jubilee Graduate Assistantship To needy and deserving M.Sc. students. Need and merit-based partial tuition fee waiver scholarships are also available per KU provision.
Evaluation Scheme
Evaluation is based on continuous assessment. Students are evaluated through class Participation, assignment, practical and project weeks, term papers, semester and end-semester examinations, and thesis defense. At the end of the semester, for each course, a student will be evaluated on a 4-point scale indicated by letter grades. To compete M.Sc. degree, students must maintain a minimum of 3.0 cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).

Eligibility
Candidates with a four year Bachelor’s degree in Environmental science or equivalent degree with minimum CGPA of 2.0 or 50% aggregate are eligible for admission. Students having four-year education in any science stream such as geography, geology, agriculture or forestry after intermediate/ +2 or BE Civil/ Mechanical are also eligible.

Curricular Structure
The Department of Environmental Science and Engineering of Kathmandu University started a graduate studies program in Environment and Natural Resources (M. Sc. ENR) in 2000. This program was updated with a specialization in wildlife management as M. Sc. in Environmental Science Specialization in Wildlife Management (MScES-WM) in 2020.
