Entrance Exams

MDS Periodontics is a three years program of Kathmandu University. This program is offered by Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences and its affiliated colleges as constitute program. 

This branch of dentistry deals with diseases of the supporting and investing structures of the teeth including the gums, cemented and periodontal membranes, and alveolar bone. The course’s curriculum covers the concepts and processes involved in identifying the techniques aimed at preventing the occurrence of and curing the spread of damage already caused by oral infection.

Students enrolled in the course are offered the opportunity to contribute as qualified dentists to the field of health care. Some of the treatment methods carried out by Periodontists include scaling and root planning, gum surgeries, curettage in dentistry, and alveolar bone surgeries.

MDS Periodontics is a 3-year PG program run by Kathmandu University in its constituent and affiliated medical colleges. 

The entrance Test for the MDS Periodontics program is conducted by the Medical Education Commission (MEC), Government of Nepal, and candidate selection is done as per MEC guidelines by MEC. 

The total Fee for MDS Periodontics in 2024 is NRs. 23,81,760 /- for Nepali students. Students of foreign nationality must pay 1.6 times the fee of Nepalese students.

Eligibility

  • BDS or equivalent from institutions recognized by the government of Nepal.
  • Registered in Nepal Medical Council.
  • Registered in the respective medical council of the applicant's own country for foreign candidates.
  • One year experience.
  • Candidates should score a minimum of 50% (Pass marks) in the Entrance Examinations conducted by Medical Education Commission for being eligible to be on the merit list.

Exam format

  • Single best response type with Multiple Choice  Questions.
  • Four options (A,B,C,D).
  • No. of questions: 200
  • Recall: Understanding: Application: 30:50:20
  • Duration: 3 hours including one-time voluntary toilet break (To be allowed only after an hour).
