Recognizing the growing need for a research-oriented approach in physics, Kathmandu University developed a specialized MPhil program in Physics. This program offers a robust curriculum that includes contributions from academic experts in related fields for both theoretical and laboratory instruction. Emphasizing research, the course is designed to prepare graduates for advanced studies and Ph.D. pursuits. It features updated content and a strong focus on applied physics to align with the latest advancements in research and development.
Objective
The MPhil in Physics aims to cultivate scholars with a solid foundation in both teaching and research. Specifically, it seeks to drive advanced research in applied physics, with a focus on promising areas such as energy, environment, biophysics, and material science. The program is crafted to achieve the following goals:
- Transition from theoretical to applied physics
- Maximize the utilization of departmental resources
- Ensure alignment with contemporary research trends in applied physics
Eligibility
- For M.S. by Research, a minimum of first division in Bachelor's level examination or Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0 or above is required in the relevant subject.
- For M.Phil., a minimum of first division in Master's level examination or Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0 or above is required in the relevant subject based on at least 16 years of study (10+2+2+2).
- For M.S. by Research, after completing a four-year Bachelor's degree, at least one year of research experience and a minimum of one published article or paper in a peer-reviewed or university-approved journal is mandatory.
