The Diploma in Biomedical Engineering program offered by the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) is designed to cater to the growing demand for skilled professionals in the emerging field of Biomedical Engineering. With increasing emphasis on the broader application of Biomedical Engineering worldwide, this program aims to contribute to the overall development of the field and create employment opportunities in both the public and private sectors.
The curriculum, initially developed in 2013, has undergone its first revision to ensure its relevance and alignment with the evolving needs of the industry. Based on the valuable input from implementing agencies and colleges, adjustments have been made to the semester-wise subjects to enhance the learning experience. The curriculum now incorporates the latest advancements in technology, reflecting the rapid progress and introduction of new technologies in the field of biomedical engineering.
The revised curriculum emphasizes a practical-oriented approach, reevaluating the weightage given to theory and practical components. The inclusion of advanced biomedical engineering technologies and the incorporation of updated skills and knowledge are aimed at producing graduates who can meet the demands of the industry, both nationally and internationally.
By equipping students with the necessary expertise and keeping them abreast of the changing technology and environmental context, the Diploma in Biomedical Engineering program aims to produce competent technicians who can contribute effectively to the national economic development of Nepal and fulfill the global demand for skilled biomedical engineering professionals.
Aim
The program aims to produce mid-level technical human resources equipped with knowledge and skills in allied fields of study.
Objectives
This curriculum has the following objectives:
- Prepare technicians who can work as biomedical technicians in different levels of hospitals and nursing homes;
- Produce middle-level competent technical workforce/human resources that could provide maintenance services for medical equipment;
- Prepare technical workforce who will demonstrate a positive attitude and respect for the profession and socio-cultural values;
- Help in meeting the demand for biomedical technicians required for the public and private hospitals of Nepal;
- Reduce the dependence on employing such technicians from foreign countries and Create self-employment opportunities.
Salient Features
In terms of language, the medium of instruction for the program will be either English or Nepali, allowing students to learn and communicate in their preferred language comfortably. It's important to note that a high level of attendance is required to complete the program successfully.
Students must maintain a minimum of 90% attendance in each subject to be eligible to appear in the final examinations, ensuring a thorough understanding of the course material and active participation in the learning process.
Eligibility
- SLC pass or SEE or equivalent with minimum 1.6 Grade Point in altogether subjects and as per the provisions mentioned in the admission guidelines of Office of the Controller of Examinations, CTEVT.
- Pass entrance examination administered by CTEVT.
Curricular Structure
The Diploma in Biomedical Engineering program is designed to be completed over three academic years, including six semesters. The program follows a semester system, with each semester spanning 19.5 academic weeks, including the evaluation period.
Students can expect a minimum of 15 weeks of actual teaching and learning each semester. To ensure active participation and engagement, the maximum group size for this program is limited to 48 students.
