If you are a computer science student or a student who is involved in programming of any kind, you might have already heard of GitHub; some might have used it too. It’s one of the many tools used by programmers and is currently owned and operated by Microsoft Inc.

In collaboration with many other companies such as Canva, Digital Ocean, Microsoft itself, etc, GitHub has brought a platform through which students can take advantage of services worth thousands for free. GitHub has named it ‘GitHub Student Developer Pack’. The benefits include a pro plan for GitHub, a one-year premium membership of Canva, access to Azure, a domain name from Namecheap and Name.com for a year, and a lot more. Depending on the availability and region, some of the benefits and offers may not be available to all. Also, some of the benefits and offers will be extended for another year if one can reverify his/her student status; that is if you’re still a student next year, you will have access to the GitHub Student Developer Pack for one more year, but with some limitations. According to GitHub, “this program has provided over 1.5 million students with the best real-world developer tools and training.”

GitHub Student Developer Pack is specially designed for students of Information Technology (IT) and Computer Science. Even if you’re a student without a Computer Science or IT background, but have an interest in programming or require access to various applications for your schoolwork, then you should definitely check it out. There are many perks and benefits included in this pack. You might as well find something worthwhile for you. You can check the benefits before signing up. Teachers can also enroll themselves through GitHub Teacher Toolbox. In addition to the tools, they will get access to GitHub Classroom. Through this, they can track and manage assignments, grade papers/work automatically, and assist students in case they get stuck.

Schools/Colleges/Universities can also enroll themselves with the GitHub Campus Program. If you're a student or a teacher, you can request your school or college to enroll themselves in the Campus Program. GitHub Campus Program provides automatic access to the Student Developer Pack for the students and the Teacher Toolbox for the Teachers. There will still be some steps to be followed and setups to be made. Besides this, schools will get added benefits of GitHub Enterprise Server and Cloud which can be used by students and teachers for various purposes including group projects.
