Nursing education in Nepal is one of the popular courses among the female students after the completion of the secondary education. Among different types of Nursing Degree, Proficiency Certificate Level (PCL) Nursing is one of the most sought and demanding medical professional course chosen by students after their Secondary Education Examination(SEE).
Globally relevant and recognized, PCL Nursing is practical medical course designed to produce middle level trained workforce to extend roles and responsibilities for the overall welfare of the patients. Like other, Nursing has been evolving and there have been development of Nursing theory that has been applied into nursing world. This course provides both theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in order to produce professionals and responsible nurses in providing promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative services.
In Nepal, various colleges offers PCL Nursing in an affiliation with Tribhuvan University, CTEVT, NAMS, Patan Academy of Health Sciences, Karnali Academy of Health Sciences and Kathmandu University.
After the completion of this course, students can pursue BSc Nursing, MSc Nursing and further Ph.D and can work in hospital, community sector and other.
Eligibility:
To apply for this program, candidates should passed SEE with minimum GPA 2.0 and C grade in Compulsory Mathematics, English & Science.
PCL Nursing- CTEVT
The Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) started Proficiency certificate level (PCL) in nursing programme in 1999 AD (2056 BS). However, to provide vertical and horizontal access to PCL nursing graduates, with kind permission of Tribhuvan University (TU), Institute of Medicine (IOM), CTEVT started using the TU, IOM curriculum for PCL nursing.

With affiliation from CTEVT, NIMST College is currently offering HA, Staff Nurse, D. Pharmacy, Lab Technician and Radiography programs. NIMST aims to create a conducive learning environment.
4. Balkumari College
Balkumari College was established on 18th September 1986 (2043) in Chitwan district. Balkumari College is affiliated to Tribhuvan University and the college has been awarded with Quality Assurance & Accreditation ( QAA) certification by Quality Assurance & Accreditation Committee of University Grants Commission Nepal on 2009 (2066) and on 2019 (2075). Balkumari College has already been recognized as an ISO 9001 certified institution for quality management system ( QMS) in July 2008.

1. NAMS
National Academy of Medical Sciences was established in 2060 BS (2002 AD) and started offering postgraduate (MD and MS) programs in Medical Sciences. Bir hospital is an embodied hospital of NAMS. NAMS has taken Maternity Hospital Thapathali, Kanti Children Hospital Maharajgunj, Nepal Army hospital, Patan Hospital and Nepal eye hospital as affiliated hospitals for the program. Under the memorandum understanding with these hospitals programs are running. Currently, this institute is enrolling around 100 MD, MS and MDS residents each year. Similarly super specialty fellowship course on neurosurgery, Fellow of National Academy of Medical sciences (FNAMS), was started in 2061 BS (2004 AD). In addition, Doctorate of Medicine and Master of Chirurgery (DM, M.Ch) started in 2067 BS (2010 AD).

Paropakar Hospital Nursing Campus is located in Thapathali, Kathmandu. With affiliation from NAMS it is offering PCL Nursing program.
PCL Nursing - Tribhuvan University
PCL Nursing offered by Tribhuvan University is a three years programme that aims to prepare competent, self reliant nurses who will be able to care for individuals, groups and communities according to the principles of PHC and the the aim of certificate in nursing programme is to prepare competent and self-reliant nurses who will be able to care for individual(s) and family(s) in the hospital and community by applying the principles of primary health care.

1. Biratnagar Nursing Campus
Biratnagar Nursing Campus was established in 1962 AD as an ANM Training Centre. In 2029 BS (1972 AD) it was amalgamated in TU Institute of Medicine as ANM Campus and in 2038 BS (1981 AD) up graded to Nursing Campus.
2. Birgunj Campus
Birgunj Campus was established in 2032 BS (1975 AD) with Auxiliary Health Worker (AHW) programme and in 2038 BS Health Assistant(HA). The Proficiency Certificate level of Nursing program was started in 2043 B.S and BNS (Hospital Nursing) Programme in 2068 BS.
3. Nepalgunj Nursing Campus
Nepalgunj Nursing campus was established in the year 2000 since then 13th batch have been enrolled in our campus. It is situated near the Bheri Zonal Hospital. Currently, it offers Bachelor of Nursing and PCL Nursing.
4. Pokhara Nursing Campus
Pokhara Nursing Campus was established in 2039 B.S. (1982). At first it ran CMA programme in 2040 B.S. (1983) and subsequently PCL Nursing Programme in 2041 B.S. (1984).
