Learning Management Systems (LMS) in Nepal

In many regions of countries like Nepal, where the only metropolitan areas are technology and network-friendly, teacher-centered teaching-learning methods still are the standard. However, with the introduction of technology into education, especially in the post-Covid-19 pandemic era, a paradigm shift has occurred in how students are supplied with learning opportunities.

The new experience established by the COVID-19 pandemic necessitates significant changes in teaching and learning procedures all around the world. Online learning in virtual classrooms is being used by teachers and students as a substitute for face-to-face learning in physical classrooms. The typical operating style of educational institutions throughout the world has drastically altered to virtual mode as a result of the pandemic's mandated social distancing. That is where the Learning Management System comes into play. A Learning Management System (LMS) is a web-based software solution that makes learning program administration smoother.

LMS includes software for providing online or blended/hybrid college courses via the Internet, as well as systems for managing training and educational records. They also include tools for online collaboration. LMS is used by colleges and universities to provide online courses and supplement on-campus courses. LMS is used by corporate training departments to offer online training and automate record-keeping and employee registration.

E-learning, or technology-assisted education, is the most recent trend in learning styles. Students may learn, engage, and even earn or get degrees from the comfort of their own homes thanks to the internet hosting and availability of learning programs and resources. Even while the internet makes it possible to store learning materials, maintaining and administering instructions through the internet is tough. As a result, the number of Learning Management Systems (LMS), or software designed to assist organizations/institutions in managing their e-learning projects, has increased dramatically.

The use of LMS in the classroom has a wide range of applications. Distance education is seen as the way of the future by universities. It's also considered a means to cut expenses, reduce the demand for classrooms, improve educational access, and expand the student population.

The standard characteristics of an LMS are difficult to list because most businesses tailor it to their needs, however, the most frequent aspects of an LMS include:

  • Registration coordination
  • Scheduling co-ordination
  • Programme tracking
  • Student tracking
  • Learning assessment
  • Testing of learners
  • Material distribution
  • Reporting

It may also include,

  • Online conferencing mechanism,
  • Budget tracking
  • Resource management
  • Learner profiling
  • Online help
  • Blended learning support
  • Administration tools

Some of the most prominent LMS in Nepal are:
