Entrance Application Open for PhD Programs 2083: Tribhuvan University Institute of Science and Technology

Tribhuvan University (TU), Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FOHSS), has officially opened admissions for the PhD programs for the academic year 2083 B.S.

The announcement follows a decision by the Research Committee at its meeting. As per the notice issued by the Dean’s Office, candidates who have completed their MPhil under the Faculty are eligible to apply for the PhD program.

• Application Start Date: Ashad 15, 2083 B.S. (June 29, 2026)
• Application Deadline: Shrawan 31, 2083 (August 16, 2026)
• Entrance Exam: Ashwin 16, 2083 (October 2, 2026)
• Entrance Time and Centers will be announced later.
• Class Start: Mangsir 15, 2083 (December 1, 2026)

Minimum Eligibility Criteria:

1. A candidate must pass entrance exam conducted by IoST, TU
2. Applicant must hold a Master's Degree of Science (M.Sc. in respective discipline OR M. Sc. / M.A. in Mathematics or Statistics) OR equivalent degree in respective subject offering Ph.D. under IoST with minimum grade CGPA 3.0/4.0 OR equivalent grade OR equivalent division.
3. For interdisciplinary research, a candidate must complete the required conversion courses of specified credit hours (CH) as decided by the subject Admission and Eligibility Criteria Ph.D. The Institute of Science and Technology, TU committee's program is based on the candidate's prior knowledge of the subject matter. These courses will be recommended by the concerned subject committee to the CDRC

• No Objection letter from the office if employed
• Nature of Job and Experience Letter
• Assurance Letter of Study Leave from the employer for a full-time researcher
• Self-declaration of fulfillment of publication criteria from supervisor/Co-Supervisors as per Ph.D. regulation 2082

Note: In the case of teachers/employees working at Tribhuvan University (T.U.) who wish to enroll as full-time research scholars, a pre-approval letter must be obtained from the Coordination Division, Office of the Rector. To obtain pre-approval, an application must be submitted to the Coordination Division by the end of Ashadh 2083 BS. In the case of others, a No Objection Letter must be submitted.

Additional Guidelines:

• Enrollment will be conducted as per the "Ph.D. Regulation 2082."
• Provisions Relating to Application Forms:
  • Fee: A Proposal Defense fee of NPR 2,500/- must be paid to the respective Central Department at the time of form submission.
  • The respective Central Departments must conduct the Proposal Defense for candidates who have duly submitted their proposals by Bhadra 12, 2083.
  • Candidates who successfully pass the proposal defense must fill out the Entrance Examination Form and pay a fee of NPR 3,000/-.
  • Payment Details: The fee should be deposited at Nepal Bank Limited, Kirtipur Branch (Account No. 04500100099107000001).
  • Submission to Dean’s Office: The bank voucher, entrance form, and all details (including the revised proposal) must be submitted by the respective Central Departments to the Office of the Dean, IoST by the end of Bhadra, 2083.

Regarding Entrance Examination Question Paper:

The examination will consist of 100 Objective Questions, divided as follows:

• 70%: Related to the specific Subject/Discipline.
• 30%: Related to Research Methodology.

Important Notes:

• Applications missing any required documents (such as transcripts) will be automatically rejected.
• Only those who meet the eligibility criteria should proceed with the application fee deposit.
• Permanent faculty members of Tribhuvan University must also submit a copy of their permanent appointment letter.
