The Dean's Office of the Faculty of Law, Tribhuvan University, has announced the online application process for the entrance examination for new students seeking admission to the first semester of the 10-semester (5-year) B.A. LL.B. program for academic session 2083/84. Eligible candidates meeting the minimum required academic qualifications must apply online through the official entrance examination application portal.

The online application form is available at www.fol.edu.np or fol.tu.edu.np. Applicants can also check whether their submitted form has been processed correctly using the "Check your status" feature on the same websites.

Eligibility

  • Candidates who have passed the +2 examination (or equivalent) by the application deadline may apply by uploading their transcripts.
  • Candidates who have passed Grade 11 and are currently appearing for the Grade 12 examination may also apply by uploading their Grade 12 admit card.
  • If a candidate sitting for Grade 12 fails to secure at least a minimum Grade D when results are published, they will not be considered eligible for admission, even if they pass the entrance exam, and their exam fee will not be refunded.
  • Per the Nepal Bar Council (Legal Education) Rules, 2077, candidates must have passed the secondary level with a minimum of 50% marks or a C+ grade in the subject prescribed by their educational institution to be eligible for the B.A. LL.B. program.

Application Fee

The entrance examination fee is Rs. 1,500 (one thousand five hundred rupees). Payment must be made via E-Sewa, Khalti, or Connect IPS at the time of application, using the applicant's own full name and mobile number. A single mobile number cannot be used to pay fees for more than one applicant.

Required Documents (to be uploaded with the online application)

  • A recent passport-size photograph
  • Citizenship certificate of the applicant, or of their mother or father if the applicant's is unavailable
  • Marksheet of SEE/SLC or equivalent
  • Marksheet of Grade 11, Transcript of Grade 12, or Grade 12 admit card (if appearing this year)
  • Equivalence Certificate, for candidates who studied abroad
  • All documents required for the relevant quota, if applying under a reservation category
  • A scanned sample of the applicant's own signature, made in black ink on plain paper

Foreign-educated candidates who have passed +2 or an equivalent must also upload the Tribhuvan University Equivalence Certificate with the application. Original migration certificates and certified copies of qualification documents must be submitted to the relevant campus at the time of admission.

Entrance Examination Structure (Total: 100 Marks)

  • Objective Questions (MCQs): 30 marks (30 × 1 mark), 30 minutes
  • Subjective Questions: 50 marks, 2.5 hours
    • Long-answer question: 20 marks
    • Short-answer questions: 30 marks
  • Creative Writing: 20 marks, to be attempted in English only.

Question Marks Allocated Time Remarks: 3 hours. The exam may be answered in English or Nepali, except for the Creative Writing section, which must be written in English.

Note: "Backward/remote districts" refers to Mugu, Humla, Jumla, Kalikot, Dolpa, Achham, Bajhang, Bajura, and Jajarkot. If qualified candidates are unavailable in a reserved category, remaining seats are filled from the open merit list, provided a minimum of 40% marks is obtained.

Documents Required for Reservation Claims

All candidates claiming a reservation seat must submit, in addition to the standard required documents:

  • A recent recommendation letter from the relevant local government body confirming disadvantaged status, or a category card/certificate from the relevant national commission or federation (e.g., National Dalit Commission, National Foundation for Indigenous Nationalities, National Federation of the Disabled)
  • For most categories, a letter from the District Education Coordination Unit or local body confirming the candidate studied at a government/community school for grades 8–12 (this requirement does not apply to candidates with disabilities)

Candidates claiming reservation must score at least 40% in the entrance exam, may not simultaneously claim reservation at another T.U. constituent campus or in another program, and must pay the same fees as open-category candidates. Submitting false information to claim reservation benefits will result in cancellation of admission and legal action at any time it is discovered.

Merit List and Tie-Breaking Criteria

A single combined merit list of all candidates' scores (including quota claims) will be published. Only candidates scoring a minimum of 40% will be considered eligible for admission. In case of tied scores, ranking will be determined in this order:

  1. Higher marks in the subjective answer booklet
  2. Grade 11 GPA
  3. Priority to candidates who studied Law as a subject in Grades 11–12 (if average scores are tied with non-Law students)
  4. Average percentage/CGPA in English in Grades 11–12
  5. Overall CGPA/percentage in SEE/SLC
  6. GPA/percentage in English in SEE/SLC

Other Important Provisions

  • Foreign nationals who qualify on merit will be admitted only to the seats equal to 5% of the open-category seats.
  • Classes run full-time during the day, generally 9:00 AM–5:00 PM (9:00 AM–4:00 PM from mid-November to mid-February).
  • Constituent campuses/colleges must provide free studentship (Freeship) to 10% of their total B.A. LL.B. students, per Tribhuvan University's scholarship directive.
  • The Entrance Examination Committee holds final authority over all matters related to the exam.

Exam Day Instructions for Candidates

  • Use only black ink in the answer booklet; any other ink color, pencil marks, or stray markings (other than the designated tick mark for objective answers) will result in the entire booklet being disqualified.
  • The admit card is mandatory; candidates without it will not be permitted to sit for the exam.
  • No entry is allowed 30 minutes after the exam starts, and no candidate may leave within the first hour.
  • Candidates must sit in their assigned seat per the seating plan.
  • Electronic devices (mobile phones, calculators, Bluetooth devices, iPads, tablets, earphones, smartwatches) are strictly prohibited in the exam hall.
  • Candidates with contagious illness, health issues, or disabilities must inform the center chief at least one hour before the exam.
  • Blind candidates or those unable to write by hand may request a writing assistant (from one academic level below the exam level) by submitting an application, required documents, and obtaining prior permission from the Dean's Office at least one day in advance. Such candidates receive an additional 30 minutes.
  • Leaving the symbol number blank on the answer booklet will result in automatic disqualification of that booklet.
