At a time when thousands of teachers are staging an indefinite strike on the streets of Kathmandu, Heramba Raj Kandel, the president of Nepal Teachers' Association, Kathmandu and principal of Viswa Niketan Secondary School in Tripureshwor, shares insights on the ongoing educational protest, the future of education, and the association's plan and strategies.

Pointing to the government's earlier assurance that the Education Act would be passed within three years of the 2072 Constitution’s announcement, Kandel states that the teachers' movement is about holding the government accountable to that promise rather than pursuing fresh negotiations.

Kandel justifies that the strike was initiated rationally, only after completing the school curriculum, conducting exams, evaluating results, and concluding the academic session. He also expresses hope that timely decisions will be made to prevent the strike from continuing, as it is causing disruptions for students, parents, and teachers in resuming classes.
