Bachelor of Mountaineering Studies (BMS) is of its kind, pioneering program not only in Nepal but globally. The duration of the course is four years with an 8 semester’s curriculum. This course is exclusively offered by Nepal Mountaineering Academy (NMA) since the year 2017 in affiliation with Tribhuvan University, Faculty of Management. It is fully governed by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation.
Nepal Mountaineering Academy has been contributing this program to provide highly practical field-based ground-breaking courses, filling the gap between Mountaineering & Tourism, especially in the academic field. It has implemented its batch structure opening quota for International students as well, with some special provisions for SAARC countries.
Thus, Ms. Aaditi Khanal, Academic Coordinator (BMS), NMA speaks about the courses, scopes and extents, course cost structure, and scholarship allocations of BMS programs in Nepal. She also highlights its importance in the global arena, as NMA has been already collaborating with international trainers, authors, medical personnel, or other international support for running the program. The discussion with Ms. Khanal also leads to her focus on how to turn this academic program into a niche program for not just Nepali students, but International students with collected experiences and information on mountaineering studies. She also extends on how this program is not just limited to academics, but also, in other sectors such as researchers in climate, environment, as entrepreneurs or managers in tourism or related industries.
