Bangad Kupinde Municipality lies in the northwestern part of Salyan District under Karnali Province in the midsection of the Mahabharat mountain range. Bordered by Kumakh and Siddhakhumakh Rural Municipalities to the east, Surkhet District to the west, Jajarkot District to the north, and Sharda Municipality and Kalimati Rural Municipality to the south, this region boasts a rich natural heritage and cultural diversity. Among its treasures is the scenic Kupinde Lake, a prominent tourist attraction that has elevated Salyan’s national and international prominence.
Established on Falgun 27, 2073 BS, following the Government of Nepal’s restructuring, the municipality was formed by merging seven former Village Development Committees (VDCs): Devasthal, Bame, Mulkhola, Ghajari Pipal, Kupinde daha, Majhkada, and Nigalachula. Organized into 12 wards, the municipality derives its name from the Vanagadi culture, deeply rooted in the former Devasthal, Bame, Ghajari Pipal, and Mulkhola VDCs, and the iconic Kupinde Lake, symbolizing its unique identity.
Bangad Kupinde Municipality is one of the 10 municipalities in Salyan District of Karnali Province. As per the 2021 census, the municipality has a total population of 32,940, comprising 15,738 males (47.8%) and 17,202 females (52.2%), with a literacy rate of 70.47%. Spanning 338.21 square kilometers, Bangad Kupinde Municipality exhibits the population density of 97 people per square kilometer. Administratively, it is divided into 12 wards.
According to the latest publicly available report of the Center for Education and Human Resource Development (CEHRD), Bangad Kupinde has 67 schools. Of these, 7 are private and 60 are public.
