The Hornby Educational Trust and the British Council work in partnership to provide development opportunities for teachers, trainers and English Language professionals in (mainly) transitional and developing countries.

The Hornby Trust funds around 16 Masters scholarships a year at UK universities for experienced ELT professionals from developing countries and countries in transition. Funding for successful applicants covers the cost of their entire programme, excluding airfare and the IELTS test (this is covered by individual British Council country offices).

As part of their academic year in the UK, Hornby Scholars attend a three-day winter workshop in order to meet staff and other Scholars, and to prepare for the IATEFL conference. Scholars then attend the annual IATEFL conference in the spring as participants and presenters.
