Masters level scholarships



With its own resources, New ERA seeks to assist promising young Nepalese students from Universities in Nepal by providing them partial support for field research related to their thesis for Masters Degree. The priority areas for research fellowship are:

  1. Social Inclusion 
  2. Social Movements
  3. Conflict Resolution
  4. Gender Equity/Women's Studies
  5. Poverty
  6. Internally Displaced People
  7. Security Sector Reform
  8. Climate Change
  9. Governance/Accountability                                                                               
  10. Community Forestry
  11. Natural Resources
  12. Disaster Preparedness/Management
  13. Women and Children’s Health Issues
  14. Maternal/Neonatal/ Child/ Reproductive Health
  15. Regional and Local Economic Development
  16. Migration/Remittance

Conditions for Fellowship 2017

 Eligibility 

Applicants, who have completed their course work for Masters Degree and are planning research related to their Masters Degree, are eligible to apply. In order to be eligible for the fellowship, the applicant should also have successfully completed the first year or second semester exam. The proposal should be “close to final”; New ERA would like an opportunity to provide inputs to the selected candidates in finalizing the research proposal. However, this does not suggest that the candidate submits an incomplete proposal. 

The fellowship is intended to support the student in conducting field data collection, analysis leading to high quality of research and reporting. New ERA reserves the right to award or reject the proposals received. Proposals written in either English or Nepali will be eligible.

 Amount of Fellowship 

The support for Masters Research will range up to Rs. 45,000/- depending upon the need, quality of research proposal and relevance of the topic of research. In addition New ERA will provide other technical support such as, assistance in research design/methodology, framing data collection instruments, data analysis and review of report.

The candidate has to make sure that all the below mentioned documents are submitted along with the filled out application form. Failure to submit any of the mentioned documents will render the application invalid.

  • Filled out fellowship application form
  • Full text of research proposal in the format specified,
  • An official letter of recommendation from the applicant's supervisor/ guide,
  • Photocopy of Mark sheets,
  • Applicant's CV,
  • Documents to other partial support, if any.

The fellowship program has a rolling application and accepts application throughout the year.
