Scholarships to study in Australia

What are Australia Awards Scholarships?

Australia’s international development assistance in Nepal aims to alleviate poverty and provide a peace dividend by focusing on service delivery in the, education, health and water resource management sectors and by providing jobs through micro-enterprise development. Most of Australia's assistance to Nepal is delivered through the Government of Nepal and in partnership with other donors and multilateral organisations.

Australia Awards are an important component of Australia’s international development assistance. The awards aim to contribute to the long-term needs of developing countries by providing opportunities for individuals to obtain qualifications at Australian tertiary institutions.

Australia Awards Scholarships are prestigious international awards offered by the Australian Government to the next generation of global leaders for development. Through study and research, awardees develop the skills and knowledge to drive change and help build enduring people-to-people links with Australia. Applicants are assessed for their professional and personal qualities, academic competence and, most importantly, their potential to impact on development challenges in Nepal. Recipients must return home to assist Nepal for at least two years following completion of their studies to contribute to the development of Nepal. Applications are strongly encouraged from eligible women, people with disability and people from traditionally marginalised groups and remote regions of Nepal.

What are the Expected Outcome of the Australia Awards Scholarships?

The Australia Awards Scholarships aim to achieve the following outcomes:

  • Awardees obtain a high level of professional and technical skills relevant to their area of expertise;
  • Awardees return to Nepal and successfully reintegrate into the workforce or community;
  • Awardees exercise good leadership, apply new skills and nurture partnerships with institutions in the region and in Australia;
  • Awardees apply their skills to contribute to improving capacity in their organisations and institutions;
  • Awardees join a global/regional alumni network and the Association of Nepalese Alumni from Australia (ANAA) and contribute to the development processes.
