USEF Nepal, widely known as "the Fulbright Commission," was established in 1961 by executive agreement between the governments of Nepal and the United States as The Commission for Educational Exchange between the United States and Nepal, and has functioned continuously since that time.

It is a binational organization governed by a Board of Directors made up of five Nepalese officials selected by the Nepalese government and five Americans officials appointed by the American Ambassador. The Board establishes policy, allocates funding, and supervises the Secretariat of the Commission, which implements the exchange programs.

About The United States Educational Foundation Nepal

The Fulbright Program

The Fulbright program is designed to promote mutual understanding between the people of Nepal and the people of the United States through a wide exchange of knowledge and professional talents shared through educational activities.

The Fulbright Scholarship Program sponsors US and foreign participants for exchanges in all fields of endeavor, including science, business, academe, public service, government, and the arts, with the support of the US government and binational partnerships with foreign governments. The Fulbright Commission supports Nepali students pursuing a Master's degree in the United States through the Fulbright Foreign Student Program (FFSP). Each year, over 4000 international students from 155 countries get Fulbright grants. The program covers all costs (including travel) for a two-year Master's degree program at a designated US university in any discipline other than medicine or nursing. The Fulbright Board in Nepal will nominate around five individuals, depending on funding availability.

Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program

The Visiting Scholar Program (also known as the Postdoctoral or Senior Scholar program) benefits thousands of scholars by allowing them to form collaborative research and/or artistic relationships with US scholars or artists, improve scholarly publications and other contributions by incorporating research and/or artistic practice conducted in the US, establish professional contacts in their field, and form long-lasting friendships with colleagues in the US.

Fulbright Specialist Program

The Specialist Program supports Nepali institutions through grants to bring US Specialists in selected disciplines to Nepal for two to six weeks. Host institutions are encouraged to customize initiatives to their specific requirements through the Specialist Program. All initiatives, however, should include an educational or training component. Because of the short duration of the exchange, projects should have specific goals that can be met during the Specialist's stay.
