About Kaiser Library

Since his boyhood, Kaiser Shamsher was fascinated by literature, strange antics, wild animal skulls, paintings, and pictures. When he toured England's libraries and museums in 1908, he discovered this ambition. The library systems in England left him highly pleased. He established Kaiser Library as his personal library after returning from England. This library was only accessible to Kaiser Shamsher's family and select individuals both within and beyond the nation during his reign. His wife, Rani Krishna Chandra Devi Rana, presented this library and the Kaiser Palace grounds to then His Majesty's Government of Nepal for public use in 1968, as he had requested. Since 1968, this library has been known as Kaiser Library and has been available to the general public.
