The Government of Nepal, Tribhuvan University, and the Ford Foundation collaborated to sign a tripartite agreement establishing the Centre for Economic Development and Administration (CEDA) on May 15, 1969. After the National Education System Plan (NESP) was adopted, the Centre was eventually incorporated into Tribhuvan University and awarded the title of an Institute on December 15, 1975.
CEDA has been facilitating national, local, and international level policy research. major functions carried out by the center include research, consultancy, and training programs.

Human Resources
The Executive Director heads the Centre, while the CEDA Management and Development Council formulates and implements the Centre's programs and activities. For the implementation and coordination of the Center's program, it has an internal research and training committee. Both research and training programs are managed by the administrative bureau. Publications
Research reports, bibliographies, case studies, seminar reports, and occasional publications are all published by the Centre. It publishes its own half-yearly newsletter, 'CEDA News', in which it updates the public on the status of ongoing projects and operations. It has been publishing the 'Journal of Development and Administrative Studies (JODAS)' bi-annually since 1978 AD. It is a scientific and highly academic publication published by Tribhuvan University that is peer-reviewed twice. It offers articles about Nepal's and other developing countries' development, economics, business, management, and administrative issues. It has also published a collection of papers from an international symposium on "Social Economy, Regimes, and Governance." Along with seminar proceedings, the Centre has so far published some five hundred research reports.
Institutional Involvement Member: BIMSTEC Network of Think Tanks
CEDA is a member of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Network of Think Tank. BIMSTEC is an international organization involving a group of countries in South Asia and South East Asia. The member countries of this group are Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bhutan and Nepal.
Focal Point: SAARC Network
CEDA is a Focal Point for the SAARC Network of Researchers on Global, Financial and Economic Issues. The major objective of this Network is to focus on external economic issues that will have impact on the individual Member States and the SAARC region.

Training Activities
Besides, providing training to five under-secretary level's officers of Government of Nepal in 2015, it has also given an intensive and rigorous Pre-service Training of Officers and Non-officers (around 300) of human resources currently recruited from Tribhuvan University Service Commission in the year 2016.
Infrastructure
It has a library and a documentation sectionto facilitate its researchers, teachers and trainers. The library has a collection of reports, mimeographs, periodicals and books related to development, public administration, business management, economics, anthropology, sociology, psychology, political science, and geography, etc. The Centre has one auditorium hall accommodating 100 people and two other seminar halls of moderate size, each having the capacity to room 30 people.
The Executive Director is the head of both the academic as well as the administrative wing of the Centre.
