Center for Nepal and Asian Studies (CNAS) is a statutory research facility within Tribhuvan University that conducts independent study and debate on social science topics and subjects. The Institute of Nepal and Asian Studies (INAS) was founded on July 16, 1972, following the provisions of the Tribhuvan University Act, 1971. The Institute was transformed into a non-teaching research institute – the Centre for Nepal and Asian Studies (CNAS) on September 8, 1977.
The research wings, known as faculties, have been in charge of the primary substantive operations at the Centre, while the administrative and documentation divisions have provided assistance. The Centre has resurrected its three 1980s offices – India, China, and Japan – in 2018. CNAS is a multidisciplinary research center with a team of ten full-time faculty members and twenty support staff members.
