Texas Students Win Gold Medal in Computer Science Category at 7th Young Scientists Summit

In a recent event held on February 20, 2023, the 7th Young Scientists Summit (YSS-2023) hosted by the Nepal Polymer Institute (NPI), a team from Texas International College won gold medal in the computer science caregory. The winning project, titled "Home automation system using NodeMcu ESP8266 microcontroller," was developed by researchers Birun Rana and Anuj Bhattarai under the mentorship of Rajesh Shrestha from Texas International College, Kathmandu. 

The Young Scientists Summit 2023 recognized the outstanding achievements of young scientists in various fields of science, technology, and innovation. The event was aimed at empowering and connecting young scientists towards new discourse, discoveries, and innovations with the motto "Youth’s Participation for Prosperity of the Nation through Science, Technology and Innovation."

The event attracted young scientists from all over the country, from grade 8 to 12, who presented their projects via posters and demonstrated their project set-ups, if necessary. Participants were shortlisted based on their research ideas and projects and were given the opportunity to deliver a 5-minute oral presentation about their work during the conference. Prior to the conference, the shortlisted candidates were requested to send a 1-minute video of their project.

The YSS-2023 had five categories: Engineering and Robotics, Life Science, Chemical and Environmental Sciences, Physical Science and Mathematics, and Computer Science (including all). The event also included a keynote lecture by a renowned scholar, innovator, or entrepreneur, and a panel discussion on issues in science and technology. The winners of the event were given opportunities to attend various international competitions.
