Teachers' Federation Raises Concerns on School Education Bill

The Nepal Teachers' Federation has expressed dissatisfaction with the report prepared by the subcommittee on the School Education Bill, accusing the authorities of disregarding previously reached agreements.

On Sunday, the subcommittee presented its report to the Education, Health, and Information Technology Committee of the House of Representatives. Following this, Federation Chairperson Laxmi Kishor Subedi stated that the Federation is preparing to issue an official position on the matter.

“The report has ignored most of the agreements we reached. Even the points that were agreed upon have been included with conditions and ambiguous wording. The agreements have not been implemented,” Subedi expressed.

He said the Federation will soon release a statement outlining the specific points of disagreement. “The Federation is holding a meeting today. The meeting will finalize our official stance,” Subedi added.

The Federation had staged a 29-day street protest in Kathmandu beginning on Chaitra 20 (early April). After reaching an agreement with the government on Baisakh 17 (late April), the Federation warned that it would resume protests if the legislation was not enacted in accordance with the agreement. The Federation has now announced that it is formulating a new strategy based on the recent developments.
