Kathmandu Metropolitan City Imposes Warning for Uniformity in School Names and Logos

Kathmandu Metropolitan City has announced that if school's names and logo are not uniform then action will be taken against them.

Through social media, the Metropolitan Mayor, Balen Shah, has appealed to all schools to adhere to the established standards and maintain originality. Additionally, he cautioned that legal action may be taken by the metropolitan if the rules are not complied with.

According to him, there are regulations in place to ensure consistency in the name and logo of the school, specifically Rule 68-70 of the School Education Management Regulation, 2074, and Sub-rule 122 of Rule 70 of the same regulation. The logo of the school is set to be a hexagon, but the school management committee has the option to include a separate logo in the center. He emphasized that the school's name should reflect the Nepali identity, which can be achieved by using the names of individuals who have made significant contributions to society and the nation, or by using names of historical figures, deities, pilgrimage sites, or natural resources.

However, for schools that were named in violation of this rule before its implementation, they must seek approval from the Metropolitan if they wish to change their name at the beginning of the second academic session following the enactment of this rule.

According to the regulation, if an institution wishes to add the word "public" to its name, it must have at least one-third of its students studying on full scholarship. If an institution wishes to add the word "national" to its name, it must have students from a minimum of 25 districts in Nepal. If an institution wishes to add the word "international" to its name, it must have at least one-third of its students from foreign countries. Additionally, the regulation specifies that the word "school" or "pathshala" should be added at the end of the school's name.

The regulation provides a provision for schools that have already added words to their names that are not in accordance with the rules prior to the implementation of this law. These schools must either comply with the aforementioned regulations or rename themselves, with the new name being effective from the start of the second academic session after the issuance of this regulation.
