Curriculum Development Center has brought course modification from class one to 12 to its final stage.

With classes one to 12 being merged into a same school level as of the ninth amendment of the Education Act, the Curriculum Development Center has been working to make a new curriculum.

Prior to the amendment, there were five structures in the school level with one to three being Pre-primary, till grade five: primary, till eight: lower secondary, nine and 10: secondary and class 11 and 12: higher secondary levels. The revised Act has set a basic education from class one to eight and secondary education from nine to 12 students.

Since the curriculum should be made new along with structure change, the Center has prepared a new course by forming an expert group. The draft has been prepared in accordance to integrate the curriculum from class 1 to 3, to reduce full marks of 9 and 10, and again to increase the full marks in class 11 and 12.

According to the executive director of the center, Krishna Prasad Kapri has proposed to reduce the Eight Hundred full marks in grade 9 and 10 to Seven Hundred. The draft has been prepared considering the full marks in grade 11 and 12 increased from five Hundred to Six Hundred. From classes 4 to 8, the center will be following and modifying practices being carried out in other countries.

According to the new format, there will be 5 compulsory and two elective topics in class 9 and 10. By doing this, the group of experts believe that the gap experienced when moving up to class 11 from class 10 will be reduced. “This will end the dilemma to choose subjects to study in further higher levels by grade 9, "said Kapri.

Class 11 and 12 will have two compulsory subjects of two hundred full marks and also four optional subjects. Two alternatives for class 11 and 12 have also been prepared. Students who have studied with five hundred full marks each will have an increase in their curriculum. The National Curriculum Development and Evaluation Council chaired by the Minister of Education, after final approval, will have the course taken into implementation.

'After final approval, we will modify the course of class 11 and 12 in the first phase. Then, in the next steps modification will begin from class 1,’ Kapri said. Local level to federation level will also have the right to make courses in national form.

After the preparation centers are made, the state and local level will also be able to make courses. The Center will give information of about 50 to 60 percent, and the rest of the courses can be constructed according to the state and local requirement.
