Kathmandu. The Center for Education and Human Resource Development (CEHRD) under the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology has issued a formal directive to implement a two-day weekend (Saturday and Sunday) in all educational institutions.
To compensate for the reduced school days and ensure that the curriculum’s required credit hours are met, the government has introduced significant changes to the academic calendar, including a reduction in seasonal vacations.
Key Changes in the School Schedule:
- Holiday Reduction: The total duration for winter and summer vacations has been reduced from 45 days to 30 days annually.
- Extended Weekdays: Schools must conduct full-day classes from Monday to Friday to maintain teaching hours.
- Daily Break Management: Schools are instructed to allocate 15 minutes for morning assembly and 30 minutes for the lunch break.
- Internal Assessments: The first and second terminal internal assessments should be conducted during regular school days without affecting teaching hours. Only the final 12 days of the academic session can be used for final examinations and result publication.
- Friday Activities: Fridays will focus on project-based and practical learning, allowing students to engage in community and family-oriented assignments.
The CEHRD has urged all Local Levels and Education Development and Coordination Units to ensure that schools follow these guidelines strictly to maintain educational standards while implementing the new holiday policy.
