The Centre for Education and Human Resource Development (CEHRD) has directed schools to use only government-approved textbooks for the academic session 2083 and to refrain from selling uniforms and stationery within school premises.
On April 7, the centre issued a circular to all 77 Education Development and Coordination Units across the country, instructing them to monitor the issue and take necessary action immediately.
The circular issued by the center states that complaints have been received that some private publishers are violating the law by charging high prices, using low-quality paper, and selling textbooks without obtaining approval from the Curriculum Development Center. The center has directed schools not to impose an additional financial burden on children and parents by acting against the policies and laws of the Government of Nepal.
Similarly, the center has stated that, recently, schools have been found selling uniforms, textbooks, and stationery materials either on their own or within school premises, and has directed that such activities be stopped immediately.
The center has also directed authorities to conduct emergency monitoring in schools in coordination with local levels, take action against publishers or schools violating the rules, and report the matter to the center.
Earlier, Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) also issued a notice to schools urging schools not to force parents and students to buy uniforms, textbooks, and stationery materials from the school or its designated vendors.
