Dharan

Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City is one of the 12 municipalities in Sunsari District of Koshi Province. As per the 2021 census, the sub-metropolitan city has a total population of 166,531, comprising 78,410 males (47.1%) and 88,121 females (52.9%), with a literacy rate of 87.42%. Spanning 192.32 square kilometers, Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City exhibits the population density of 866 people per square kilometer. Administratively, it is divided into 20 wards.

According to the latest publicly available report of the Center for Education and Human Resource Development (CEHRD), Dharan has 128 schools. Of these, 79 are private and 47 are public. The breakdown includes 87 pre-schools, 122 basic schools, and 73 secondary schools. Among the secondary schools, 32 offer +2 programs.
