The Maker Mentor Program is an experience that will allow you to explore the Karkhana way of designing and delivering fun hands-on learning experiences. It is an opportunity to experience hands-on practical methods of teaching and learning. In the six days program, you will be trained to mentor young minds of age 8 to 14 using Karkhana products.
The participants will have to be present physically for the six days event.
Why be a Maker Mentor?
Our generation has come from an education system that is broken. Broken in the sense that it lacks connection to the real world. We studied for the sake of a degree rather than to learn real world skills.
There must be times when you fall asleep in class. Or times when you were frustrated by the way you were taught. There must have been times you dreamed of changing it. so that the learning was fun, engaging and meaningful.
The Being a Maker Mentor is a way to fulfill your dream. Be a maker mentor and be the change you want to be.
Do you think the current education system prepares you to face the real world? Do the grades you get define how successful you are later in life? Do you think change is possible?
We are still preparing the students to ace the 3 R's: Reading, Writing and Arithmetic but the 21st century asks for new skills. Skills that prepare the students to face real life problems, skills that promote creativity and innovation and skills that communicate people. Be a Maker Mentor and promote the 4Cs: Creativity, Collaboration, Communication and Critical Thinking to nurture young minds.
40% of our population is under 18 and x% are attending schools, college to get education. But these talented youths are not interested in education. Getting an education is no more fun but just a formality. Not attracting innovative creative minds in education will have adverse effects on the health of the nation.
Maker Mentor is an initiative to expose young minds to a new way of learning in a hope to inject more youth in educating the next generation.
40 % of the population in Nepal is under 18. Instead of complaining about the political instability and having a negative attitude about how things are hard to change, what can we do as individuals to create an environment for the new generation to grow as better citizens.
Maker mentors are positive role models that help enhance the learning experiences of young students to prepare them to be concerned citizens through use of technology, art and making.
Karkhana, established in 2069 B.S. designs learning experiences that provide opportunities for kids to make things, and in the process learn how to shape their own worlds. We believe that the makers of today are the shapers of the future. Karkhana designs a learning kit for middle school students. These learning kits are a bag full of hands-on learning materials for the purpose of experiential learning from grades 1 to 10. These kits are designed to stimulate 21st-century skills like creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, risk-taking, and making skills in students. Also, recently we are building makerspaces in 20+ schools where little makers can tinker, make, play and innovate new ideas. With our communities of designers, artists, engineers and scientists, we attempt to turn the classroom, playground and kitchen into a lab of discovery.
