Crafting Cinema is a 45-day filmmaking workshop offered by Kathmandu University. This beginner course aims to equip students with practical, hands-on knowledge in various aspects of filmmaking. It is suitable for individuals who have an interest in filmmaking but do not possess any prior experience in visual arts, film, or media.

Whether you want to explore the world of filmmaking or pursue it as a career, this workshop is designed to cater to your needs. In a competitive workshop environment, students will receive instruction on fundamental filmmaking skills. They will also have the opportunity to collaborate with others and learn innovative techniques.

The workshop offers valuable insights from experienced film industry professionals and competent lecturers. Participants will acquire skills in screenwriting, directing, camera work, sound design, lighting, editing, and production management. Right from the start, students will have access to digital cameras, sound recording equipment, lighting kits, and editing software.

By the end of this workshop, students will have gained practical experience and a solid foundation in the art of filmmaking, setting them on the path to becoming competent filmmakers.

Curricular Structure

The course will cover fundamental aspects of filmmaking including cinematography, editing, screenwriting, directing, audio storytelling, production design, and more.

Throughout the course, students will actively participate in a range of short assignments, providing them with hands-on experience to apply their learning. As the course advances, students will have the chance to choose and pursue a final project that reflects their individual interests and objectives. Furthermore, students will have the opportunity to write, direct, produce, and edit an independent film project. These projects will be eligible for submission to international competitions and festivals, offering students a platform to showcase their work on a global stage.
