BE Mechanical Engineering program at Pokhara University has been recently launched for the 2025 intake, marking a historic milestone as the university’s first program of its kind. This initiative was driven by a clear vision: to provide a high-quality mechanical engineering education within Nepal and reduce the growing trend of students pursuing this field abroad. Until now, Pokhara University has offered all major engineering programs except mechanical engineering.
Recognizing the increasing national demand, especially in the hydropower, energy, design, automation, manufacturing, and industrial sectors, the university identified a critical need for skilled mechanical engineers to support Nepal’s infrastructural growth and technological advancement. What sets this program apart is its forward-looking curriculum. In addition to traditional mechanical engineering subjects, it integrates modern specializations such as Automation and Robotics, Industry 4.0, and Machine Learning. These courses are designed to equip students with practical, real-world skills aligned with global industry trends. Moreover, the program emphasizes strong industry-academic collaboration, offering students hands-on training, project-based learning, and exposure to local and national industries. The goal is not only to educate but also to prepare graduates who are industry-ready and capable of contributing meaningfully to Nepal’s development.
Objectives
BE Mechanical Engineering program at Pokhara University aims to produce professional engineers equipped with strong technical knowledge, critical thinking, creativity, and leadership skills. Its scope encompasses the design, analysis, and production of engineering systems, with a focus on utilizing appropriate technology and addressing real-world applications. Eligibility
- Candidates must have studied at least one course on Physics (P), Chemistry (C) and Mathematics (M) and completed SLC (class 12) examination of NEB or equivalent level from a recognized academic institution.
- Candidates must have scored a minimum of 45% or CGPA of 2 (in a scale of 4) and at least Grade C (at least grade D in case of A-level) or 45% in each subject (P, C and M). The minimum criteria for Grade C (in case of A level: Grade D) does not apply for extra courses, if any.
- Candidates must have studied at least 100 marks of mathematics in SLC (class 12) examination of NEB or equivalent level.
- Candidates who are awaiting result of 12 class or equivalent in science stream can also apply.

Fee Structure
The total tuition fee for the 4-year Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Mechanical Engineering – NRs. 5,87,200 with a refundable security deposit of NRs. 20,000.
Curricular Structure
BE Mechanical Engineering curriculum of Pokhara University is a well-structured, four-year undergraduate program spanning 8 semesters and 130 credit hours.
It integrates core sciences—mathematics, physics, and chemistry—with foundational and advanced mechanical engineering subjects, along with interdisciplinary courses in communication, management, and design. Key features include three elective courses, a minor project, a two-part major project, and a mandatory 12-week internship to ensure practical exposure and industry readiness.
The curriculum begins with foundational courses such as Engineering Drawing, Mechanics, Thermodynamics, and Workshop Technology. In the later years, students delve into advanced subjects including Heat & Mass Transfer, Machine Design, Finite Element Method (FEM), Robotics and Automation, Automotive Technology, and Energy & Environment, with a strong focus on innovation, sustainability, and practical application. Unique to this program in Nepal is the inclusion of specializations like Mechatronics, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning, alongside software-based projects, which form a central component of the teaching approach. Practical learning is emphasized throughout, achieved through a well-balanced mix of lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions to prepare students effectively for industry challenges.
