The Bachelor of Arts in Social Work (BSW) is a four-year academic program under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Tribhuvan University. This course aims to produce generalist social workers who can meet the needs of contemporary Nepal. A career in social work is incredibly rewarding, offering the most up-to-date knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for individuals to play vital roles within society. The BSW program enables students to consciously apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world contexts, assisting individuals and communities facing challenges such as poverty, violence, depression, HIV/AIDS, and social/gender discrimination. Through this program, students are prepared to make significant contributions to societal well-being and social justice.

Admission Criteria

Students seeking admission to the Social Work program must secure at least a D+ in all subjects in Grade 11 and Grade 12. Eligible students seeking admission have to fill out the admission form that is available in the college. The college will conduct an interview for the selection.

Work Placement

During the course, students will undertake field placements (paid and unpaid). These placements take place in a variety of social work settings across Nepal, including local-level government, INGO/NGO, and CBOs. Students will get the opportunity to gather experience working on contemporary social issues in Nepal.

Duration of the Course and Evaluation

The duration of the course is four academic years. There will be a final examination at the end of each year for 70 marks. An internal evaluation for 30 marks will be done by the Social Work Department.

BSW CAREER IN NEPAL

BSW, as an interdisciplinary subject, paves a career path for its students to become and achieve the goal of social activists. With the completion of the graduation, multiple jobs wait under the footsteps of the students in various INGOs (International Non-Government Organizations) and NGOs (Non-Government Organizations).. BSW graduates are also employed in family service agencies, child welfare organizations, nursing homes, hospices, substance abuse programs, ageing services, criminal justice agencies, schools, and more social welfare-related fields.

Students can see their career in United Nations Organization as a monitoring and Evaluation officer, Social work officer,  INGOs as a child protection officer; however, it depends on the working arena of particular INGOs,  in NGOs,   government agencies,  colleges and schools,  state and local governments including child welfare agencies and department of health and human services, counselling center’s, Rehabilitation Case Worker, Human services specialist, Probation officer

After completion of Bachelor's in Social work Studies, the students can apply for a large number of graduate degrees in the specialized field including: Master in Social Work, Master's in Psychology, Master's in childhood Development , Master in Counselling and can see their career even in more wider prospects at different working places in different working areas.
