Thirty One Nepalese Students got AusAID Scholarship

A total of 31 Nepali scholars were handed the AusAID scholarship, under the Australian Government Scholarship Programme, at an event organised by Australian Embassy on December 5.

According to a press release issued by the Embassy of Australia, Education Secretary Suresh Man Shrestha and Ambassador of Australia, Susan Grace handed the awards to the scholars.

Among the scholarship recipients, 14 are women and four are government employees. All the scholars will be pursuing post graduate studies in Australia in 2013, as per the press statement. 

The subjects of study that these students will be pursuing include health, education, governance, livelihoods, water and sanitation and forestry prioritising for the development of Nepal. 

In the same event, the Australian Alumni Excellence Awards honoured five alumni who have made outstanding contributions in their chosen fields and enhanced Australia–Nepal relations. 

The award was categorised in sections like business leadership, outstanding young alumni, community service, Endeavour and AusAID award.

The press release further mentions that the Australian Government currently invests over AUD 300 million annually in scholarships through its global Australia Awards Programme. Meanwhile, Australia’s development assistance programme to Nepal has grown in recent years, reaching AUD 31.5 million in 2012-13 with a focus on health, education and rural livelihood.
