Teacher arrested for sexual harassment in Panchthar

LAXMI GAUTAM, PANCHTHAR: A teacher has been arrested for sexually harassing a student in Panchthar district. Police arrested Upendra Chaudhary, a science teacher at Saraswati Madhyamik Vidyalaya of Hilihang Rural Municipality-5 on Tuesday after a student filed a complaint against him.

According to the complaint, Chaudhary — of Shambunath Rural Municipality-5 in Saptari — allegedly made sexual advances on the eigth grader by visiting her residence while no one else was there in the house. He went there on the pretext of getting her symbol number and told her that he would get her the first position in the examination.

Parents of the student expressed grief that their daughter had been harassed by her own teacher. The girl had run away screaming after the teacher made advances on her.

According to Anil Poudel, Information Officer at Panchthar District Police Office, Chaudhary has been kept under police custody and a case of sexual harassment has been filed against him.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
