Teach for Nepal a campaign for quality education

 A group of 33 volunteers will start teaching at 16 community schools in the southern belt of Lalitpur district from next week. Selected for a Teach for Nepal campaign, these volunteers will serve the schools for two years.

The campaign had chosen these volunteers from over 14,00 applicants, who had taken part in a six-week training. Speaking at the launch of the campaign yesterday, volunteer Roji Maharjan express hope that all Nepalis children will get an excellent education one day. 

Maharjan, a Mass Communications graduate and MA in Social Work, said she wants to improve the quality of education and enrich her experience by working in public schools. 

The volunteers are from different fields, including the media, engineering, management and science.

CEO of TfN Shishir Khanal said the campaign aims to produce leaders by imparting quality education. TfN is an independent movement of Sarvodaya Shramadan Nepal, a registered non-governmental organisation. Adviser to the campaign, Prof Kedar Bhakta Mathema, said everybody should have access to quality education. 

“There should not be disparity between the rich and the poor when it comes to education,” Mathema added. A TfN partner, Shekhar Golchha, pledged Rs 3.5 million for the campaign this year, promising to increase the assistance in coming years. 

Ambassador of Finland to Nepal, Asko Luukkainen, pledged Rs 15 million, whereas US Ambassador Peter W Bodde committed $75,000.
