Supreme Court issued an interim order against private schools fee hike

April 05, 2014
The Supreme Court issued an interim order against any private schools fee hike on today.  Responding to a Public Interest Litigation filed by Advocates Shree Krishna Subedi and Gopal Nath Yogi, a single-bench of justice Sushila Karki gave an interim order not to hike fee of any private schools.

Recently, the Private and Boarding Schools Organization, Nepal (PABSON) had proposed to hike tuition fees at all private schools from the new academic session.

Advocates duo moved the court against PABSON and NPABSON´s recent decision on fee hike in private schools arguing that the fee hike would be against the Education Act and Regulations and also a previous ruling of the apex court.

The writ petition claimed that private schools are charging tuition fees arbitrarily at present despite the court´s order of 2012, and the authorities and institutions concerned were not monitoring the implementation of the Institutional Schools Criteria and Operations Directives-2012.

On May 23, 2012, a division bench of Justices Tahir Ali Ansari and Baidhyanath Upadhyay had directed the schools not to hike their fees for three years and not to charge any fees without the approval of the government agencies concerned.
