from St Xavier’s College . Sobit Baniya, a Masters degree graduate from the Central Department of Fine Arts at Tribhuvan University, said he opted for fine arts as no Tribhuvan University -affiliated college offered Interior Design courses.

Chhama Keyal, a graduate from Namuna College of Fashion Designing , said she studied Fashion Designing from a Purbanchal University-affiliated college as the course was not available in Tribhuvan University. There are many such students, who wish to study at Tribhuvan University, but end up in other colleges, and even go abroad to study the courses of their choice. Many Nepali students want to join Tribhuvan University so that they can study with renowned professors and increase their job prospects.
“I had never thought that the country’s oldest and the largest university would have so few choices,” said Rashmi from Birgunj, seeking admission in craft courses. Parents are also disappointed at the unavailability of new courses in the country’s largest university.
A parent, whose daughter wants to study crafts said, “Tribhuvan University is not for creative people.” “Tribhuvan University has fine arts, music, dancing, and many such courses to enhance the creativity of students. If students think we need to add more courses, we are ready,” said Professor Chinta Mani Pokhrel, Dean at Tribhuvan University’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
