Tribhuvan University (TU) officials signed an agreement with the representatives 13 student unions to implement semester system and to regulate the academic calendar and improving the teaching learning system of the varsity.

The science faculty of Tribhuvan University has been practicing the semester system but for Humanities, Education and Management faculties, semester system is introduced from this academic year.

The meeting of the TU executive council followed by the agreement endorsed the decision to open entrance form for the Master´s program for Science, Management, Humanities and Education faculties at the TU Central Campus from Wednesday onwards.

Students unions have committed to support the institution for effectiveness of the new structure and help to make it more credible.

TU Registrar Chandra Mani Poudel said that the new academic session will begin from March. The student seats have been limited to 300 per faculty to control the admission of students who just enroll and never attend the class. Likewise, the three faculties can charge Rs 8000 per semester, though the fee for practical subjects could vary based on their own assessments.

Initially, the TU varsity had given autonomy to the faculties to set admission, examination and practical assessment costs which was changed as per the students´ demands.

The students jointly sought solidarity from officials to end the dual degree system and gradually adopt the new structure in all constituent colleges as well.
