Student unions aligned to various political parties have given a 48-hour ultimatum to the Tribhuvan University (TU) demanding to scrap its decision regarding implementation of the semester system for the Masters program at the Tribhuvan University central departments and some constitutent campuses.
Nine student unions announced their agitation programs with 10-point demands including immediate announcement for admission in the Masters level first year, in a press meet in Kathmandu, yesterday. They have threatened to intensify protests if the TU failed to meet their demands within the deadline.
Student unions´ protest comes in the wake of the oldest varsity´s plan to implement the semester system from the upcoming academic year for the masters program at its central departments.
Similarly, the student unions blamed that the central university campus is still unprepared to implement the semester system. The other demands put forth by the student unions are; implementation of a new academic calendar, punishment to irregular professors, adding physical infrastructure at the TU, increment scholarships quotas and ending political meddling in the university education.
The Nepali Congress aligned Nepal Student´s Union (NSU), UCPN-Maoist aligned ANNFSU-Revolutionary among others are protesting against Tribhuvan University's decision to implement semester system.
