Stress on development of Lumbini Buddhist University

Kathmandu, Sept 30 (RSS): Buddhist scholars have stressed on the need for the government’s special attention to the promotion and development of Lumbini Buddhist University. 

Speaking at a symposium on ‘Lumbini Buddhist University, Past and Present’ organized by the University and the Nepal Paramparagat Boudha Dharma Sangh here Saturday, they said that office-bearers appointed to the University should be those with special knowledge on Buddhist religion. 

On the occasion, Vice-chancellor of the University Dr Naresh Man Bajracharya said that University was being development as a centre to produce experts in Nepal’s Lumbini, Khasti, Swayambhu, Namobuddha and others areas of Buddhism. 

Stating that the University is now providing studies in Pali, Sanskrit and Tibetan languages, Dr Bajracharya said Buddhist studies will also be available in Chinese language in the near future. A total of 736 students are currently studying in the University. All Nepal Bhikshu Federation General Secretary Kaudinya called for development of infrastructure for opportunity to research Buddhist religion.  Buddhist scholar Jigdol Lama said study of Buddhist philosophy was essential to live a happy life as a human. 

Likewise, Dr Bajra Raj Shakya said Buddhist religion is an ideology that benefits all and is essential to liberate any soul from pain and sorrow.
