Department of Education, Nepal directed PABSON and NPABSON to stop taking send up exams, citing this is against law.
The Central Fee Fixation and Monitoring Committee (CFFMC) lead by Department of Education Director General Lava Deo Awasthi has directed private schools to cancel the School Leaving Certificate Send-up exams scheduled for next months.
The committee, has given permission to individual schools to hold internal exams for SLC preparation.
Openly challenging the existing legal provision, Pabson last week published exam timetable for all the grade10 students for schools affiliated to it. Though Education regulations (Sixth amendment, 2011) bars schools from holding send-up exams to select students for SLC, Private schools have been holding the test to pick excellent students for good results which they often use to attract prospective new students.
According to the regulations, students who are studying in grade 10 and have at least 70 percent attendance cannot be barred from the SLC exam.
Schools that bar students from taking SLC exams citing test results are liable to a fine of Rs, 25,000 and other action from the respective District Education Office.
The CFFMC has a representation from Department of Education, PABSON, NPABSON and gurdians' associations and according to Director General Lava Deo Awasthi, this decision was taken in consensus.
The CFFMC also formed an eight member committee led by Department of Education Deputy Director Ram Sharan Sapkota to recommend on various issues including school categorisation and scholarships, fee hike etc.
The committee will submit a detailed report within a month.
