September is the World Alzheimer's Month and World Alzheimer’s Day is celebrated on the September 21.  In this day, Alzheimer's organizations around the world concentrate their efforts on raising awareness about Alzheimer's and dementia.  Every 68 seconds, someone develops Alzheimer's disease. Across the globe, 35 million people and their families are affected by dementia. 
 
Dementia is not a specific disease. It's an overall term that describes a wide range of symptoms. Dementia is a general term for a decline in mental ability severe enough to interfere with daily life.
 
Facts About Alzheimer's Disease
  1. Alzheimer's is the must common form of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. Symptoms usually develop slowly and get worse over time, becoming severe enough to interfere with daily tasks.  
     
  2. Aging is one of the greatest known risk factor of Alzheimer's. But Alzheimer's is not just a disease of old age. Up to 5 percent of people with the disease have early onset Alzheimer's
     
  3. Alzheimer's has no current cure, but treatments for symptoms are available and research continues.
