Kathmandu, Jan 20 (RSS): The taskforce of the Education and Health Committee under the Parliament has recommended forming a five-member Committee chaired by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering in Pokhara University to prepare a modality to run Nepal Engineering College (NEC) at Changunarayan Municipality in Bhaktapur.

The taskforce coordinated by lawmaker Yogesh Bhattarai suggested forming the team that could comprise Mayor of Changunarayan Municipality, representatives from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST), Chief District Officer of Bhaktapur district and the NEC Principal. Furthermore, the taskforce has asked to prepare the modality including forming an all-round Board of Directors within 15 days and submit it to the MoEST.

Recommendation has been made to form a separate task force to look into corruption and disputes involving the college as well as the disputes surfaced in the all-round meeting and to take action against the guilty. An application was submitted to the Education and Health Committee on September 21 last year after issues were surfaced regarding the modality in which the college was being run.

The Nepal Engineering College which has around 2,200 students and 200 teachers and other staffs has been operated as a community education institution contrary to claims that it was being run by the private sector, a task force formed to investigate alleged irregularities in the college.
