Kathmandu- South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation has put forward the proposal of another SAARC University. The proposal has been made after 9 years of the establishment of the first SAARC University following the success of it.
In the Health Ministry level of meeting conducted in Colombo last Saturday, Secretary General of SAARC Amjad Hussain B. Sial mentioned the need of a Medical University in the SAARC region. He stated that the education in the field of Health education is quite expensive in this region. The Secretary General Sial further explained that the SAARC region has the epidemics of both the communicable and non-communicable disease and this medical University will help to bring the access of health facilities and awareness in the rural areas of the region.
The proposal of the Secretary General has been given positive response by all the eight members countries of SAARC. The final decision about the approval of the proposal will be made in the up-coming 19th SAARC summit meeting after which the process will be initiated for the establishment of the University.
