Earlier on Tuesday, envoy Sood inaugurated three different development projects in Kanchanpur district during his trip to the western Nepal.

The NRs. 4.67 crore-projects were implemented with the assistance of the Government of India under the Nepal-India Economic Cooperation Programme.

The projects included the 11 Municipality roads in Mahendranagar, and buildings for Janaki Girls Secondary School in Mahendranagar, and Kalika Lower Secondary School, Pipaladi Village Development Committee (VDC).

This is an important town of trade and tourism. The roads of the Municipality having cumulative length of 4.98 km had been damaged. The upgrading of 11 roads from gravel to blacktop standard with the Government of India grant assistance of NRs. 2.98 crores has benefited about 80,000 residents of the district.

Established in 1990, Janaki Girls’ Secondary School is the only girls’ secondary school in the Kanchanpur district. For upgrading the physical infrastructure of the school, the Government of India provided an assistance of NRs. 1.13 crores for construction of double-storied school building and provision of furniture. This will provide much needed classroom space to over 350 girls’ students and also help the school to accommodate the ever increasing number of students.

Set up in 1995, Kalika Lower Secondary School is situated in Ward No. 8 of Pipalwadi VDC in the district.

The school was unable to cope with the increasing number of students due to shortage of classrooms. The infrastructure constructed with a grant assistance of NRs. 0.56 crores will provide much needed classrooms to over 600 students, about half of whom are girls.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the projects, the Indian envoy highlighted the importance of India-Nepal Cooperation Programme.
