Kathmandu, August 22: Medical Education Struggle Campaign, a group of medical students and aspiring medical professionals, have demanded that the government take stringent action against rampant corruption and mismanagement in medical institutions and hospitals across the country.
They are left with no options but to launch protest programmes if the government fails to immediately curb corruption and malpractices in medical sector, they warned.
The campaign has been led by Prakash Chand, son of Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplab’, who leads outlawed Communist Party of Nepal. Prakash has requested the government not to relate his mission with the political ideology of his father. Speaking at a programme, Prakash said, “The government is allowing medical institutions to charge tens of thousands of rupees from elites, excluding under-privileged ones from services. The same institutions are providing meager pay to their staffers.”
He demanded that the government soon come up with policies of minimum salaries to all types of medical professionals.
Prakash, who is working as an intern after completing his MBBS degree from Chitwan Medical College demanded same standard of medical education in all medical institutions to bring uniformity in medical education.
