Purbanchal University (PU) plans to grant affiliations to private and public colleges despite the government ban on universities to grant such affiliations.

The university has been preparing to grant affiliations to private and public colleges to run Masters programmes. Vice Chancellor Prof Ghanashyamlal Das had disputes with Science and Technology Dean Shuva Narayan Pathak and Medical Sciences Dean Dr Siddhartha Koirala while preparing to award affiliations to the colleges, a university source said.

Following the differences, PU handed over the responsibility of holding entrance exam of both faculties to Exam Controller Surya Prasad Sangaroula. Sources said the university is doing internal planning to award affiliations to public and private colleges to conduct medical science, science and technology, law and arts faculties.

“The vice-chancellor and deans have had differences on selecting colleges to grant affiliations,” a source said, adding that there might be financial irregularities while awarding affiliations to those colleges.
Vice Chancellor Das accepted that the university is making efforts to grant affiliations to the colleges for the last two years.

“We are at the final stage now,” said Das, adding that exam controller is going to conduct entrance exams to minimize expenditure of both faculties. “The government has prohibited granting affiliations to the colleges. So, there’s no any difference with the Vice Chancellor,” said Dean Pathak.

Although there are no students in the Environment Management Faculty and Forest and Science Faculty, the university has appointed Abhaya Kumar Sah as the Assistant Dean and Campus Chief. Dean Pathak said they appointed Sah as Assistant Dean and Campus Chief to admit students and manage infrastructures and library. “At first we had to appoint campus chief to admit the students,” said Pathak.
